MOSQUITO MAYHEM

Some of the most wildly beautiful places I have been to have the most mosquitos known to man! 2 places that come to mind are Volo Bog and Bluff Spring Fen. These places have such lush vegetation and rare plants, they are a must see. However, you do have to come prepared with some type of bug deterrent.

I found myself only spending about 20 minutes or so at Volo Bog. But during that time I was able to spot a rare plant called royal catchfly. I also saw some wild astors and a Pearl Crescent butterfly, which are more common summer sightings.

At Bluff Spring Fen, I went with a friend who toughed it out longer than I did. He found species of dragonflies there that I had never even heard of! Again, I could only stay about 20 or 30 minutes, but was still able to capture some shots of Goat’s-beard, Echinacea and Wild Campion.
