I DON'T SEE ANYTHING

I was walking through my favorite Nature Center, and happened upon some teenagers looking very desperate and upset. “Do you see anything?” they asked me. Then they explained they had a nature project for school that was due soon, and they just couldn't see anything here! How could they come back empty handed? I pointed out a turtle, a damselfly and a dragonfly, all within 15 feet of them. They thanked me. Then the guy's cell phone rang, and they left. I'm not sure how much I opened their eyes, but I made myself realize how much my eyes were open, and what a gift that was.

A walk in the forest might turn up all sorts of things. For instance, if you see a dark form in the water that looks like it might be an animal, take a closer look. This is how I spotted a muskrat that thought he was hiding under leaves and duckweed!

Or during the fall, you might see wonderful leaf configurations which are just naturally setup by wind and leaves falling off trees. The golden leaf amidst all the brown oak leaves is a lovely natural design.

You’ll often spot turtles if you look at logs in the water. The really big ones are probably snapper turtles. They kind of monopolize those logs! And they certainly look as if they would make a large plop in the water, once disembarking. However, if you look at the adjoining pic, this guy dropped into the water in 1 second while I was looking down to adjust my camera without me even hearing him! When I looked back to take another picture, he was gone.
